Senior Manager Retail Operations – Qatar Airways – Doha, Qatar

JOB PURPOSE:
To maximise sales and ensure that the levels of customer service within QDFC are the best within the Gulf region. To manage the overall operational running of the shop-floor, incorporating the sales and merchandising teams, ensuring that they are motivated towards driving sales.
To contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of a business strategy that maximises the retail net profit by driving sales and controlling costs, to build high performing teams through the effective leadership and line management to retail staff.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Management & Strategy Formulation
▪ Develop and implement the QDF Retail plan including strategies and tactics associated with marketing and growing travel retail business.
▪ Drive and deliver quick business wins to increase revenue income and ensure budget is achieved.
▪ Drive positive change in sales performance through the creation, implementation and delivery of sales strategies and presentations across QDF.
▪ Lead and develop a team of managers to drive retail growth; partner with HR and managers to establish recruiting networks to identify and hire top retail talent, and to ensure that ongoing orientation, training and development programs are in place to meet anticipated business needs.
▪ Identify and maximise all business and revenue opportunities by developing successful retail proposals and enhancing the retail offering to optimize performance.
▪ Responsible for the profitable operation to include developing and overseeing strategic growth initiatives, margin enhancement, visual merchandising presentation and maintaining consistency throughout the stores.
▪ Responsible for the P&L and accountable to ensure all retail financial metrics are achieved. Develop and implement the QDF Retail plan including strategies and tactics associated with marketing and growing travel retail business.

▪ Identify and maximise all business and revenue opportunities by developing successful retail proposals and enhancing the retail offering to optimize performance.

▪ Responsible for the P&L and accountable to ensure all retail financial metrics are achieved.
Operational
▪ Oversee all day to day operational issues in QDF. This would also extend towards the major involvement in strategic planning setup.
▪ Develop and maintain strategic relationships with staff and all other stakeholders operating in HIA.
▪ Oversee the implementation of the company’s scheduled stock counts, in conjunction with stock control, to provide accurate records for the company and minimise stock issues. Manage stock levels and make key decisions about stock control.
▪ Manage and ensure that sufficient control measures are in place to secure both stock and cash at the shops, stores and warehouse.
▪ Analyse sales figures and forecasting futures sales volumes to maximise profits, analyse and interpret trends to facilitate planning and present recommendations to management.
Use information technology to record sales figures, for data analysis and forward planning; update management about business performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues.
▪ Tour sales floor regularly, talk to Category Managers and customers, and identify and resolve urgent issues.
▪ Maintain awareness of market trends in the retail industry, understand forthcoming customer initiatives and monitor what neighbouring duty free competitors are doing.
▪ Deal with staffing issues such as disciplinary meeting, exit interview, conducting appraisals, managing performance and ensuring standards for quality and customer are met. Ensure the retail operation complies with all policies and procedures relating to Security, Health and Safety; influence any changes necessary to meet statutory requirements, ensuring minimum risk to staff members and the business.
▪ Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
Management & Leadership
▪ Establish the department or teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
▪ Regularly evaluate the department or teams objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and makes appropriate changes if needed.
▪ Oversee and supervise employees. Direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
▪ Train and develop other employees, to ensure succession planning is in place.
▪ To be committed and contribute to the National talent development, by coaching the national developees, preparing them for a career with boundless potential. Leading to the program’s continued growth and success.

▪ Keep abreast with any market trends and developments
▪ Assist in the response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Qatar Airways or its subsidiaries, including support of the Qatar Airways Special Assistance Program.
▪ Train Qatari staff in various duties as per business requirements.

▪ Ensure that in performance of the role, all uses, disclosures and requests of any information (in any form) are done in accordance with data protection principles adopted by the QR Group and are limited to what is reasonably required to accomplish the intended business purposes of the use, disclosure or request.

▪ Responsible to ensure that employees at all levels understand work health and safety requirements and expectations through provision of relevant QR Group induction, information, instruction, training and supervision.
▪ Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, security, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the operation to assure employee safety, security, legislative compliance and delivery of high quality service with a responsible environmental attitude.
▪ Ensure that all managers and supervisors understand work health and safety requirements and expectations to the extent that they can pass on relevant information, identify training needs and provide appropriate supervision in their workplace.
▪ Take a direct and personal interest in reported injuries, incidents, near misses and hazards to ensure that appropriate reporting, investigation and response is being achieved.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 10 years of job-related experience
Essential
Minimum of 10 years’ experience as Retail Manager in a similar operation such as Fast moving Consumer Goods, Luxury Branded Products, with preference given to candidates with management experience in the Duty Free business
Strong financial, business and numeric understanding including P&L and budget management
Job Specific Skills:
Essential
In depth knowledge of retailing essentials; encompassing issues such as margins, pricing, retail IT systems, merchandising, in store stock layouts, price ticketing, warehouse/store logistics, passenger traffic trends, and development, customer service standards, promotions and new business developments.
Managerial skills – Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train and develop subordinate’s skills. Ability to foster teamwork among team members.
